Day Fifty-Seven: 11/21/2022
I don’t appreciate the earlier in-time, but I certainly enjoy the lack of people in the building. There is no faculty, teachers, or students for the whole week. Our custodial team is only here Monday and Tuesday. I enjoy doing a deep clean, especially when I know no one is going to mess it up in twenty minutes. I also enjoy the solitude. It allows my brain to drift into other realities. Other realms. Alternate reaches beyond my job of sanitation management.
Unfortunately, the day was not as eventful as I'd wished. When I got home from a child's birthday celebration. I discovered that my back tire was completely and utterly deflated. I tried to air it up, but to no avail. After my shift, I plan to get it repaired at a local shop. this fairy has to walk with an injured tire in my gloved hand.
At least I'll be done with my shift by 3:30 in the afternoon. Plenty of time to cart around one of Gladys's wheels. If only I had an alternate form of transportation. Other than my legs.
Day Fifty-Eight: 11/22/2022
There is a direct correlation between wet trash, and the floor that these bins reside. The trash on the top floor is generally dry, lacking of discarded drinks and food. The main floor is a mix of course. It is the main floor and has the most traffic. The wetness of the trash is relative to the location. While, the trash in the basement is ALWAYS wet. Always smelly, and generally the most foul. The students do a number to the basement level. We literally had to clean up, what I want to believe is ketchup, from the wall. The splatter went from the ceiling tiles to the waxed floor. Since the basement is not apart of my duties, I have no idea how long that had been there.
Another FLAT TIRE!!!
I was going to run an errand on my lunch break, but Gladys's back tire was flat AGAIN! Ugh, the day before it took me two hours to walk to the bike shop and then walk home. In the snow, while it was barely thirty degrees outside.
Luckily, my coworker was kind enough to drive me. It also didn't hurt that the attendant from the day before was working again today. The service was waived and they replaced my punctured tube free of charge. They didn't find anything wrong with the tire yesterday, but today I found a large triangular piece of glass that was stuck in the tire. It had sliced the innertube most effectively.
Thank goodness for the holiday break!
Thanksgiving Break
I wouldn't make a post, since I didn't actually clock into work, but I was invited to a Friendsgiving event by a coworker. So, it felt fitting to feature the look of the day. I'd recently decided to add more teal to my day-to-day. Quite appropriate to let The Teal Fairy attend the soiree, they'd been working so hard. It was time for them to spread their wings. Showcase their beauty and strength. Gladys was very pleased to take a trip outside our normal parameter, she also carried precious cargo. The green bean casserole for everyone to enjoy! Happy Thanksgiving, from your friendly fairy!
Day Fifty-Nine: 11/28/2022
I think today is the fifty-ninth day, but my head was clouded due to a cold. Yes, I showed up to work again not feeling well. I feel like shit, but at least I look fabulous. I’ve allowed more teal to be in my life. The greenish-blue hue is now in my hair permanently. I needed it. I’m working tirelessly to better my life, but there are still so many struggles that are beyond my control and power.
I have been thinking about the book idea, The Teal Fairy Goes Back to School. I want it to be an anthology series where different artists will collaborate with me to create a fully realized graphic novel. I had this idea that a little mouse asks to become human. They want to learn and are tired of scavenging for straps. The mouse was once a familiar to a young witch that died tragically. She killed herself and the little mouse was left alone in the school. Familiars have the chance to become human after years of service to their master. Except, she snuffed out her life before she could turn her little mouse friend into a human. The Teal Fairy agrees, the mouse is transmuted into a young boy. The Teal Fairy takes in the young boy, and leads him towards his magical destiny.
Day Sixty: 12/1/2022
I’m back after two days of being sick. I tested myself twice and I don’t think I had COVID. I used these at home tests and either I’m an idiot and don’t know how to use them, or the kits I got from the clinic were not of good quality. I tried to utilize my time away as best as possible, but there was no way I was going to get out of my apartment to clean up after others.
I’m not back to my usual 100% but The Teal Fairy was able to come out fully.
The job itself felt uneventful, maybe not, but my mind has been other places. I’ve recently started working on the book, The Teal Fairy Goes Back to School. I have this vision of creating a graphic novel. An anthology of artists would contribute to the story from my imagination. I think there should be seven stories. The Teal Fairy will take on 7 students to tutor while they are working in the public school system.
Day Sixty-One: 12/2/2022
You know what I’d rather be doing today? I wanted to watch the seniors perform their solos. I wanted to know what style of dance they’d be expressing their inspiration with. I wanted to be moved through rhythm and perfectly calculated steps to a beat. I didn’t want to have to yell at students for misbehaving. I didn’t want to have to educate an entitled teen to properly throw away their trash. I didn’t want to have to ask a teacher to get onto their students more. Sometimes, without my choice the old man inside me comes out. Yells at the youth as if happiness is a cold he doesn’t want to catch.
