Poised in purple.

Day Three Hundred & Fifty-three: 4/8/2024

I’m rocking the purple hues this week. I’m not sure if it’s going to be a long week, only time will tell. It will be a five day work week, so there’s that. I will say that I need to break up the monotony. I’ve been wearing primarily teal for weeks now, so to keep things fresh I like to throw in some other colors. Also, since I have a purple makeup pallet, it makes sense to use it. Thus this fairy will be teal and purple all week.

I’ll do whatever I can to break up the menial if I can. I escape into my audiobooks and podcasts, but I also need a visual change to make through each day. I believe that this week will be easy sailing. There will be testing for the majority of the week. Though, we will have some evening performances to contend with.

There was nothing tonight, thankfully. When we don’t have events I don’t have to worry about students floating around the halls. There’s no need to fret over attendees when the building is silent. It also allows for me to complete my tasks in a timely manner with plenty of time to spare for my creative endeavors.

Day Three Hundred & Fifty-four: 4/9/2024

I absolutely adore testing weeks! Colorado Measures of Academic Success or CMAS will be commencing today, tomorrow, and Thursday. It means that my job is much simpler. I gave my area a good scrubbing and cleaning on Monday knowing full well that the middle school students would be absolutely consumed with their standardized testing that they won’t have the opportunity to make a mess.

Thus the space was practically how I left it Monday night. I still had to clean, this wasn’t like a day where I didn’t have to do anything. However, the amount of work was cut in half. I’m not complaining about this at all. I’m expressing my gratitude for it! I don’t mind a steady amount of work, but I’ll take a slack kind of day if it wants to present itself.

Day Three Hundred & Fifty-five: 4/10/2024

I decided to wear my new glasses today. I prefer contacts, but I was curious what it would be like to wear the new specs. They feel quite secure because I would be utterly grossed out if they fell off my face into a toilet. These are the things I think about. Hopefully the reality will not match my fears.

Should I be annoyed when I see kids roaming around? There might be a few things going on tonight, but I still don’t believe that there should be anyone in my hallway today. My area has nothing to do with events and thus should be off limits to those that enter this building. Does it warrant a frustrated fairy to scold them? Really, asking for a friend of a friend.

Though, I wasn’t aware that there was a small gathering after the senior recital tonight. This happens all of the time. We are given some information or none at all and then we have to deal with the situation. It really isn’t so bad, as long as they leave and clean up after themselves. Kidding, but not kidding. If all we have to deal with is some trash afterwards, then by all means…commence and congregate.

Day Three Hundred & Fifty-six: 4/11/2024

I’m sad that today is the last day of testing this week. Though, I suppose the students are glad they are done. The quiet, the rigidity has made for the space to remain pleasant. Subdued by the lack of energy that hasn’t been exerted by the student body. All of their reserves were being utilized to complete their timed tests. I’m quite grateful for these standardized testing this week.

Something else that I’ve noticed when the building is quiet is that the mice like to roam more freely. I believe they would prefer to rule the building, but where would they get their crumbs if there aren’t those making a mess. Well, I saw a few this evening. One while I was sitting alone in a teacher’s pod minding my own business. I saw this little mammal underneath the table in the middle of the room. I made a little hissing sound and the mouse migrated to another corner of the room. I made the same hissing sound and the bugger disappeared into a hidden crack between the wall and the storage closet. I moved over to try and locate the opening that the feral creature uses to appear and disappear. All to no avail.

I saw another one when I was cleaning the bathroom in the other teacher’s pod. I was rounding the corner when I saw something small scurry into the bathroom. It looked like they ducked behind the trashbin. Slowly, I approached the receptacle. I wanted to catch them. It might not have been humane, but I wasn’t interested in keeping another rodent alive if I have the option to exterminate them.

To my astonishment. They were gone. Poof! It was if they transported themselves out of the small tiled space. I checked and there wasn’t any hole in the tile. So, where did they go! I KNOW, like absolutely know that I saw the mouse run into the bathroom. I may be a fairy, but these mice are magicians.

Day Three Hundred & Fifty-seven: 4/12/2024

I concluded the week feeling perfect in purple. I can’t really wear a lot of accessories while I work, but today I threw on a ribbon and some beads. Like I say, anything I can do to break up the monotony. Everything to make myself feel pretty when life is feeling disgusting.

Well, I was expecting the space to be much dirtier as the students were confined to their testing all week. I anticipated a space that was completely destroyed by brain dead youths. Maybe because they were so tired of school that they didn’t have the actual energy to propagate a mess for this fairy to clean up.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the space wasn’t destroyed. There were a few messes of course and I was annoyed by candy wrappers on the floor, but it wasn’t that bad. Perhaps, I’ve lowered my expectations so low that at this point that I require so little.
