The Teal Fairy took a vacation.

Day Two Hundred & Sixty-two: 10/23/2023

Oh fall! This season has a way to bring a smile to my face. It brought me so much joy. While I was biking to work the season seemed to be dancing. As the wind drifted just slightly, the leaves graciously trickled down to the road. As of today, the streets and sidewalks were scattered with yellow, orange, red, and even some brown confetti. Autumn has decorated the landscape. The season is in full swing. Absolutely gorgeous! Because of the grandeur, I took my time to get to work today. I would've preferred to sit in a park and watch more of the leaves glide down from the trees all evening, versus clean up after teenagers. Oh well, there is a job to do.

So, most of the space was rather okay. I didn’t have complaints with the hallways and most of the rooms weren’t trashed like they have been. For a Monday, I’m pleasantly pleased that I didn’t lose my temper and break another sink. Side note on that, it was replaced last week. We can’t seem to fix the main sink that the majority of the campus uses DAILY, but we will fix a sink that is still operational for faculty. Okay, that doesn’t make sense, but whatever.

I just have a thought that I can’t seem to relinquish. That is why there is some sort of need to leave a mess in the bathrooms. This is the type of behavior that I would expect to find in young children and not at an acclaimed arts school in a major city. This is beyond juvenile and I wish I had the resources to catch whoever is doing this type of behavior. Publicly shame them and hopefully scare them for life. I want them to feel the fire of a thousand suns. The magnitude of a million earthquakes. Just so they will never transgress again in the presence of a fairy!

Day Two Hundred & Sixty-three: 10/24/2023

I haven’t taken any serious amount of time off since last December. All of the other vacations I’ve taken have been a few days here, a few days there. Nothing significant in ages. Thus, I’m so looking forward to my vacation that starts as soon as I clock out. I’ll be out for a full forty hours paid vacation. From Wednesday to Tuesday, I’ll be free from the confines of the school and the annoyances that come along with the job.

I of course will be putting this week and the remainder of next week’s blog into one submission. Though, how many people read this is very small, I still appreciate the attendance to things I call my life and work. I’m typing this as if I’m going to be sending this out into the void tonight. No one will see this until another week and a half. Oh well, the process is still fun.

I finished my work early and it has given me extra time to think about what I want to work on while I have to stay clocked in. Sometimes, I wish I could clock out when I actually finished my work. Except, that would mean I wouldn’t be able to acquire a full forty hours for the week. So, scratch that thought. I suppose I’ll still try to complete my tasks early so I can at least get paid by the hour to type these few words out onto a screen.

In other news, I’ve started the VERY tedious task of re-editing The Teal Fairy Fables. I’ve gone through each story one by one and found places that could be expanded or need additional details to fully flush out the story. I’m now working on those individual stories until I feel that they are superior to what they once were. I’m trying to stay focused on my aspirations. Since I’ve received so many rejections, it’s really easy to become completely discouraged by the process. I’ve done some additional reading and they, those that have experience of being chosen, have stated that you should go back to the work. See what can be improved on what was already thought complete. I don’t know, it’s something right?

Day Two Hundred & Sixty-four: 11/1/2023

I’m back after taking a week off from work, well forty hours of paid vacation was used. Since I only worked two days last week and I’ll be working three days this week I thought it would be more appropriate to have a full week for the blog. Even though it is slightly disrupted by my time away. The feelings and sentimentality are still the same. I’m back at work and I fortunately diverted the mess that is Halloween.

It’s my favorite holiday and I really didn’t want to be in the building for this day. Last year, the kids drove me to my literal edge. So, I had the day off. As an adult I think it needs to be addressed that we deserve a day off post our vacation. Thus, mine was on All Hallows Eve. I dressed up as a witch. A very clear representation of who I really am. This isn’t an outfit that I could wear at work. I’d ruin my own clothes, something I’m not really willing to do for my menial job.

Well, I came back after my extended time off. It was difficult I would say the least. As the time ticked away I found myself at the precipice of no return. I won’t be paid if I won’t show up, and when the time presented itself, it was time. I had to grab my teal bag, throw it in the basket of Gladys, my teal bike, and head out the door. A teal blur biking through Park Hill to The Denver School of the Arts.

The shift itself wasn’t the worst. Though the best is when there are no students in the building, or if they are preoccupied with testing. Yet, we have students hyped up on the sugars of candy that they’ve received from strangers and friends. It will be the fuel that will be altering their moods until this weekend. I say this not as a complaint, but more as an understanding of what I will experience. I completed my tasks without frustration. Though! There is something that I just can’t get over. It makes me wish we could outlaw these items from campus. That is lollipops. Each time I find a discarded lollystick I’m actually disgusted by their lack of decency to throw it away like a responsible person. This item has been in their slobbery mouths, and then they just leave it on the floor like some sort of savage! It doesn’t get vacuumed, so I have to pick each one up. Fuck LOLLIPOPS!

Day Two Hundred & Sixty-five: 11/2/2023

It was definitely an eventful evening. I’m not sure of all of the details, but one of our security members went down. Again, I didn’t see the whole situation, but my favorite security guard collapsed and the paramedics were called. Apparently, he’s going to be okay. They sent him home and called in another guard to replace him for the night. We needed someone because we had two events. Dance performance in the dance hall and a guitar concert in the concert hall.

I was busy doing my own thing in my own area. I somehow missed all of the mayhem. It must have been scary for those involved. The security guard was hunched over, unconscious, and there was a pool of drool from where his mouth was agape. Startling!

While this was going on, I was clearly lost in my own tasks. My personal experience was rather uneventful, except I got in a bit of trouble for not carrying around my walkie talkie. I set it down and then went and had my lunch. Forgive me! Oh well, I don’t think it is any major concern that will impact my employment.

On a beauty note, I really need to clean my hair! Lol! Generally I will wash my hair right at the beginning of my vacation, but I didn’t want to when I got back. If I’m not going to wear my hair down, then it is not going to be washed. Thus, I’ve now surpassed a week of it being shampooed. It’s quite gross, but at least my face looks good. At least this is what I’m telling myself. You tell me.

Day Two Hundred & Sixty-six: 11/3/2023

Oh! There’s a reason that I have anxiety before work. I never know what I’m going to discover. To an extent, there are far less issues compared to other campuses. However, there is no reason to act out, in my opinion, if you are privileged to attend an arts school. I don’t have the patience to deal with any destructive behavior. Oh well, their loss because I don’t know if we have a replacement at this time.

Well, there’s never a dull moment here at DSA. I was restocking some supplies in the bathroom next to the dance studio when I saw a large group congregating in the hallway. I was perplexed because the intermission for the dance performance had already passed and there was still an hour left of the recital. As I approached I could tell that it was about twenty people and they were crowded around someone. Something had happened and many were monitoring the potential patient. I didn’t want to stare so I continued to complete my task. However, when I was done, I noticed that they still hadn’t dispersed. Even the principal, security, and the dance instructor were standing along with the group. My inquisitive mind couldn’t take it and so I circled them. Removed my earbuds so I could listen more intently. “She’s okay, she’s okay. She just overheated.” I heard an older gentleman say as he caressed the hair of the woman he seemed to know intimately.

The paramedics were called and she was observed and cleared. I didn’t see all of this as I had other tasks to complete. Besides, I’m not sure how much this Teal Fairy could contribute without some sort of healthcare training. I’m not sure if the commotion interfered with the dance recital or not. It probably did to some extent. I will have to investigate this next week. For all I know she is fine, but what a way to steal the show!

On a more positive note, I had a very real moment with a young man. He came over to me enthusiastically and gave me a very gregarious high five. I was honestly shocked for someone to interact with me for just existing. I say this knowing that so many kids find me fascinating, it is another thing when they approach me. I need to remember these moments better than I have. They provide memories dipped in gratitude.
